What are carton flow roller centers or wheel centers and how do they impact material flow?

Roller/Wheel Centers refers to the spacing within a section of SpanTrack. As product increases in length, additional space can be added between rollers/wheels. Other factors like humidity, condition of box, bottom surface of tote, weight of box, and more need to be considered. Having closer centers can increase flow reliability with these other factors.

What makes the rollers and wheels turn?

Gravity! The most powerful (and free) force in the universe.

Why should I use steel carton flow rollers instead of aluminum? What is the cost difference?

Steel rollers are more durable than aluminum rollers and have a low slope needed for long runs. Steel rollers are more expensive, but they are built to withstand harsh environments and difficult workflows.

Can SpanTrack Lane be installed in freezers or climate-controlled areas?

Yes! SpanTrack Lane is freezer/cooler rated to below zero and is often used to store and flow temperature-sensitive goods. SpanTrack Lane is a popular choice for cold chain operations due to its freezer/cooler rating and durable, rugged construction.

How do I select the correct track width for SpanTrack Lane carton flow rollers?

Conveyors

How much does UNEX Gravity Conveyor cost?

Pricing for Gravity Conveyor depends on the combination of components and the size and materials required for your specific application. While most conveyors are sold in 5 or 10-foot lengths, UNEX manufactures gravity conveyor side channels to the inch, allowing you to order precisely what you need. This saves our customers time and money by eliminating the need to saw-cut sections to length and provides more options to meet unique demands.

When should I use a skatewheel conveyor?

Skatewheel Gravity Conveyor is ideally suited to convey lightweight packages, where operations require portable or temporary conveyor lines such as warehousing or shipping areas. Here are the top 3 reasons you may want to choose skatewheel conveyor for your application:

  • Skatewheel conveyors require less pitch or angle to transport product.
  • Empty boxes and very light loads travel better because the force required to start several wheels in motion is less than a full-width roller.
  • Product tracking is better on skatewheel conveyors, especially on curves, as the differential action of the individual wheels allows the product to maintain its original position on the conveyor.

Are there items that cannot be conveyed on a skatewheel conveyor?

Yes, containers with ring-banded bottoms, drums with chimes, most bagged items, and cartons with flimsy or soft bottoms cannot be handled on a skatewheel conveyor.

What are some examples of roller conveyor uses?

Gravity rollers are an almost universal answer when it comes to handling products with a smooth, flat bottom. Gravity Conveyor rollers can be used in flat (level) lines with the product being pushed manually or set at a decline, allowing the load to move forward by gravity. Roller conveyor is also well-suited for order picking applications – both for dynamic storage and pick conveyors used along the front of the rack.

Can you provide a portable conveyor?

Yes, UNEX makes both skatewheel and 1 ⅜” diameter roller in an aluminum construction. The frames, wheels, or rollers are lightweight aluminum, making them easy to set up and takedown. Portable tripod supports are used to allow for quick setup – the conveyor cross members nest into the top of the support, and height adjustments require no tools. This makes them ideal for setting up temporary lines for loading dock applications.

Why should I choose gravity-powered conveyors as opposed to powered conveyors or automated solutions?

Gravity conveyors are a cost-effective, low-maintenance alternative to powered systems. They’re ideal for operations that need simple, efficient product movement without the complexity or expense of automation. UNEX gravity conveyors require no electricity, have minimal upkeep, and are easy to reconfigure as workflows change. They’re perfect for staging, packing, loading, and other manual handling zones where automation isn’t necessary or practical.

What are some common uses for gravity conveyors?

Gravity conveyors are used to move cartons, totes, or flat-bottomed items in a wide range of applications. Common uses include order picking, packing stations, shipping and receiving, work-in-process staging, and assembly lines. UNEX gravity conveyors are especially effective for creating flow racks, flexible workstations, or connecting different areas of a warehouse without the need for powered equipment.

What is the difference between carton flow and gravity conveyors?

Carton flow systems use closely spaced rollers on a slight incline to store and feed products for order picking with FIFO rotation. Gravity conveyors are heavier-duty roller or wheel systems designed to transport cartons or totes between work areas. Carton flow focuses on inventory storage and picking, while gravity conveyors handle product movement throughout a facility.

What types of conveyor systems does UNEX offer?

UNEX offers Gravity Conveyors and Pallet Track pallet flow systems. UNEX Gravity Conveyor uses rollers or skatewheels to move cartons and totes throughout a facility. UNEX Pallet Track is a pallet flow system that uses rollers or wheel rails designed specifically for pallet storage and handling. Both Gravity Conveyor and Pallet Track require zero power to operate, making them ideal solutions for minimizing energy consumption and maintenance costs.

What is UNEX Pallet Track and how does it work?

It uses rollers or wheel rails installed on a slight incline to move pallets from the loading side to the picking side, ensuring first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory rotation. This system reduces the need for forklifts to navigate aisles, minimizing labor costs and potential damage to inventory.

What types of pallets can UNEX Pallet Track handle?

UNEX Pallet Track is versatile and can accommodate various pallet types. Roller tracks are suitable for single-face and Euro-style pallets, while wheel tracks are ideal for GMA-style wooden pallets with bottom boards perpendicular to the flow. This flexibility ensures efficient flow for different pallet types.
